Psoriasis, Phototherapy Clinical Research Fellowship
Wilson Liao, MD, Director
The fellowship is designed for physicians who have completed at least one year of ACGME-accredited post-graduate residency training and who are thus eligible to be licensed to practice medicine in California. Under the mentorship of Drs. Wilson Liao and John Koo, the fellow will gain a thorough understanding of the design and conduct of clinical trials in addition to learning the art of using various therapeutic modalities including topicals, phototherapy, biologics, and other systemic agents in the treatment of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and other chronic dermatologic conditions.
The specialized experience in dermatology clinical care and research gained during the fellowship is likely to greatly enhance one's credentials. Fellows typically benefit from engaging in over a dozen research studies, publishing 25+ manuscripts, and delivering numerous talks at local, national, and international meetings. Previous fellows have been highly successful in the dermatology match, although acceptance into this fellowship has no direct bearing on the chance of being accepted to the UCSF Dermatology residency program. Even for individuals who have completed training in another field and do not plan to pursue a dermatology residency, this is a unique opportunity to gain expertise in the management of dermatologic conditions and in clinical research for those interested in incorporating clinical trials into their practice.
