Information for Visiting Medical Students
UCSF Department of Dermatology
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Dermatology's clinical elective. When space is available, U.S. visiting students may apply to participate in the clinical electives in listed below. There is no remuneration for these electives and neither room nor board is provided. Students must be in their 4th year of training and comply with all UCSF's requirements. We CANNOT accept International students.
Since 2009, UCSF has accepted applications submitted online through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) for US Medical Students. Canadian students, please visit the UCSF website for application instructions.
Please note that we accept ONLY students who plan to pursue a Dermatology Residency and who have provided a letter of recommendation from the Chairman of the Dermatology Department at their home institution. If and only if your medical school does not have a Department of Dermatology may you provide a letter from an individual who has mentored you and can speak for your interest in pursuing a career in dermatology. Applications that do not fulfill this requirement will NOT be considered. The letter should indicate that you are a strong candidate and intend to match in dermatology. Multiple letters are not necessary. You may upload this letter to the SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTS section of the VSAS application (preferred method) or the letter may be sent by e-mail or mail to Christina Walker or Laura Harrison (contact information below).
Please see the UCSF website for further information about the process.
