Information for Visiting Medical Students

UCSF Department of Dermatology

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Dermatology's clinical elective. When space is available, U.S. visiting students may apply to participate in the clinical electives in listed below. There is no remuneration for these electives and neither room nor board is provided. Students must be in their 4th year of training and comply with all UCSF's requirements. We CANNOT accept International students.

Since 2009, UCSF has accepted applications submitted online through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Visiting Student  Learning Opportunities program (VSLO) for US Medical Students.

Please note that we accept ONLY students who plan to pursue a Dermatology Residency and who have provided the supplemental document. Applications that do not fulfill this requirement will NOT be considered. You may upload this item to the SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTS section of the VSLO application (preferred method) or emailed to Laura Harrison (contact information below).

Visiting Student Program 2024-2025

Please note the following program dates, which are subject to change or cancellation:

  • Learners may begin applying after February 9, 2024

  • Catalog starts June 3, 2024

  • We will not be offering applicants rotations until mid April date TBD

Block Calendar: Your dates of attendance must correspond with the UCSF calendar. You must start at the beginning of the block(s) and finish at the end of the block(s). No exceptions can be made to this calendar.

Cancellation:
You must withdraw at least 8 weeks before your starting date. Fees are non-refundable. All cancellations and changes must be made in writing. We may write a letter to your dean if, once scheduled and confirmed, you withdraw from an elective less than eight weeks before the starting date or fail to notify us.
