Acne Vulgaris

Acne vulgaris is a common disorder. Patients are seen in several different dermatology practices depending on the patient's age, the severity of their acne, and their prior treatments.

Patients Under the Age of 15
All acne patients below the age of 15 are seen in Pediatric Dermatology.

Patients with Mild or Moderate Acne
  • This form of acne usually has less than 25 bumps at one time and is worse on the face than the body.
  • If you have this form of acne, do not have irregular menstrual periods, and have not previously had a course of Accutane (isotretinoin), please make an appointment in General Dermatology.

Patients with Refractory or Severe Acne
  • This form of acne usually has more than 25 bumps and the bumps can be deep and resemble boils or abscesses.
  • These types of acne lesions can leave scars.
  • In this category we also include patients who have failed chronic oral antibiotic therapy and previous treatment with Accutane (isotretinion), and patients being referred by other dermatologist. If you have this form of acne, please make an appointment with Dr. Lee Zane in his Acne Practice.

Patients with Acne Scarring
Patients with acne scarring who wish to seek surgical treatment may make an appointment in the Dermatologic Surgery and Laser Center.
